We had carpenter aunts in our house in FL for the longest time. They are big flying ants. They live outside but come in for water every spring.
They can live blocks away in a neighbors tree and then come visit your house every year. Our bug guys sprayed all our trees every year. Then our last year there we had a tree die. After we cut it down, no more carpenter ants.

ohhhh boy...you better get that checked quick. They can fix it if it is caught early.
